Routine Cleaning (Daily & Weekly)
Cleaning is the most fundamental and crucial step to prevent the buildup of chalk dust, sweat, and oils from your hands, which can cause the shaft to become sticky and affect your stroke.
After Every Play Session:
Use a soft, dry cloth (microfiber is best) to gently wipe down the cue shaft and the butt. This immediately removes accumulated chalk and perspiration.
Periodic Cleaning (Every 2-3 weeks):
Use a specialized cue cleaning solution for the shaft. Absolutely avoid using harsh detergents, alcohol-based solutions, or furniture polish, as they can dry out the wood and damage the protective finish. Apply gently and wipe completely dry.
Note:
You may use specialized ultra-fine sandpaper (burnishing paper) to lightly rub the shaft along the grain if it feels sticky, but this should be done cautiously and sparingly to avoid excessive wear.
Proper Storage (Protecting Your Investment)
The environment is the key factor affecting the lifespan of a wooden cue.
Avoid Extreme Temperatures and Humidity:
NEVER leave your cue in the trunk of a car, near a heater, air conditioner, sunny window, or in an overly humid area. Sudden changes in temperature and humidity are the leading causes of warping and wood cracking.
Ideal Environment:
A cool, dry place with a stable temperature (around 15˚C – 25˚C or 60˚F-77˚F) and moderate humidity (40 – 60%).
Use a Dedicated Case:
