KAZE
From a Gentle Breeze to a Silent Storm
In Japanese, Kaze (風) means “wind.”
The wind is invisible — yet it is everywhere.
The wind is gentle — yet it can gather the power to become a storm when necessary.
That same philosophy gave birth to the KAZE brand — a silent warrior in the modern world of billiards.
The Story Begins with a Hidden Craftsman in Kansai
His name is Tetsuya Nakamoto (中本哲也). He is not an engineer, nor a designer, nor a frequent public figure. He was born into a family with three generations of traditional cue craftsmen in Nara, Kansai, Japan.
At the age of 15, his father entrusted him with selecting wood, measuring humidity, and hand-pressing the grains — teaching him a simple truth:
“A great cue is one that possesses a soul.”
“Not every cue plays perfectly. But every cue must be true.”
Tetsuya worked for major brands, but always felt something was missing. For over 20 years, he served as a technician for many renowned Japanese cue makers – but only handled individual production steps, never granted full design control. Multiple times, he proposed structural changes — altering butt composition, adding offset grain splices or removing industrial gloss coatings — but he was always refused because they would “increase the cost.”
So he quit. He left Tokyo. He returned to Kansai, and began sketching his first design: “KAZE.”
KAZE – Not a Project, but a Quiet Experiment
For four years, he worked with a small team of artisans in Jiangsu, China — without marketing, without announcements. Every initial cue was fully handcrafted — from wood selection and seasoning to layering, and pressing the grains.
Each butt had to feature the exact double-helix grain pattern and correct stone-rattling ratio — any deviation meant rejection.
No decals or printed veneers — all patterns were real inlaid wood, precision-cut and hand-fitted.
Some months, the workshop completed only two cues.
When the first ten cues were completed, he didn’t engrave a logo or name. He simply enclosed a handwritten note:
“If this cue feels right for you, then it was made for you.
I don’t sell cues — I share a feeling.
When a player picks it up and feels a connection, the cue has fulfilled its purpose.”

From a Craftsman’s Dream to a Warrior’s Legacy
Today, Tetsuya no longer crafts cues directly. He serves as an advisor for the production team in Jiangsu — reviewing designs, selecting materials, and setting quality thresholds for each batch.
And KAZE, from a gentle breeze blowing out of Kansai, has quietly evolved into a gentle yet powerful storm in the high-end cue market.
Excerpt from his working notebook:
“Make a cue that even if you can’t play well — you still want to keep it. Because it isn’t just a tool. It’s a companion in battle.”
The Art of Multi-Piece Cue Craft
The Artistry in Every Piece of Wood
Rather than chasing variety, KAZE focuses deeply on multi-piece wood cues — a segment that demands masterful precision, extensive completion time, and absolute accuracy.
- Each butt is assembled from 60 to 120 pieces of select hardwood.
- The patterns are not printed or decaled – they are real wood inlays, built deep into the butt.
- The structural alignment and layering ensure uniform energy transfer – no vibration, no deflection.
Like a samurai caring for his blade, a KAZE player treats his cue as a mark of honor.
Two Years of Growth – A Warrior in the Making
Launched just over two years ago, KAZE hasn’t rushed. It hasn’t been loud. But it has generated enough “wind” to create an underground storm among serious billiards players.
KAZE Series
- KAZE Storm Series: Powerful, solid, and responsive — like a breeze preparing to become a tempest.
- KAZE Vento Series: Smooth, soft, and delicately controlled — like wind weaving through every available space.
- Version 2 models in development: Adding bronze ring options, personalized patterns, and improved shaft and handle designs.
Each series has its own personality — but they all share one spirit:
Kaze is wind — but not every wind is gentle.
Some are born to sweep the table.
KAZE – Not for the Many, but for the Few Who Seek Connection
KAZE is not loud. Not mass-produced. Not superficial.
Every cue has depth — a reason to exist beyond beauty. A cue that doesn’t need brute force — yet controls the ball with perfect precision. A cue you never want to replace.
“From a breeze to a storm.”
KAZE
Born to be a warrior on the table.
“Not every cue is wind.
And not every wind is KAZE.”
